(Finally) Yuri!!! on Ice

Howdy goody!

It's already 2021! Although it's late but, happy new year! May this year be kinder than last year because 2020 sucks. One of my resolutions this year is to write regularly so that I will not forget who I am and keep being sane.

Pft, why am I getting so serious out of blue?

If I wrote about post-breakup back in 2019 (lmao), now I'm going to open this year with a falling-in-love themed kind of post? But instead of falling in love as in falling in love, I'm going to bring up my experience of falling in love with an anime called Yuri!!! on Ice. It's about a figure skater named Katsuki Yuri who was in a slump because of losing and his journey to get back on figure skate with his idol turned to be his coach, Victor Nikiforov.

It's a quite famous anime, I believe? I saw it on my Twitter timeline often but because I rarely watch anime, so I didn't think I would actually watch it. After I watched it, I thought of why didn't I watch this anime sooner? Yep, your girl has fallen in love with its art and also, emotions.

Cries.

First of all, the art. I'm not an expert on animation and art, nor I'm an artistic person, yet this anime has the art that moves the heart.

Before you scroll even further, this writing is 100% based on my opinion. If you have different opinions or things I should know related to the topics, you can leave a comment or contact me through social media, okay?

Back to the art that moves the heart. The studio that brought this anime to life deserves praises! I really love every scene where they figure skated because, oh, how I love beautiful things. Every movement is art, every flower thrown to the ice rink is art, every jump is art, every expression they made on that ice rink is art. To sum up, everything is so artistic that I consider it as art.

The animation is so detailed to the point of you can't miss even a small detail, yet they managed to make something to get all of our attention so we don't even have time to focus on anywhere else. Unless you pause and squint your eyes to get the small details, you'll get too absorbed to notice. Honestly, I even had to rewatch some scenes because I didn't really focus on the conversation. For example, the scene where Victor cried. His tears were like...glass. So beautiful.

Episode 12: Victor cried.

Or the scene where they exchanged rings in front of a cathedral and a choir singing carol. I didn't even realize that they were in front of a cathedral until my friend told me. I was too absorbed with Yuri giving Victor a ring as a thank you gift. I mean, who gave someone a couple rings for a thank you gift? It's Katsuki Yuri and Victor Nikiforov's thing, indeed.

Oh, by the way, it's a sports anime. Despite the very strong undertone of BL, it is, in fact, a sports anime. I'm not kidding about the undertone, though. It is faint but it is there. So, my advice, if you aren't comfortable with it, you can think again before you watch this anime. But if you are okay with a little bit of BL, I highly recommend this anime.

Then, the emotions. Have I told you that I cried numerous times when I watched Yuri performed? His feelings overflowed on the ice rink. I remember the first time Yuri performed Yuri on Ice, I sobbed hard. I could feel how he was unsure about his career as a figure skater and how he was determined to change himself to be better. His impatience to be better was also shown in his performance.

Every gesture the characters made in this anime also tells you about their feelings. That's why I said this anime is really detailed. It's like I was watching a movie with real people as the casts because every micro expression and gesture have messages, especially when it comes to Katsuki Yuri and Victor Nikiforov's moments.

Honestly, it feels like I'm back to learn that basic communication material subject I learnt in the early semesters of college.

Yeah, well, there are so many feelings in this anime and if I tell you all about it, I feel like I will end up spoiling the whole anime. Trust me, I can talk about feelings all day. In conclusion, this anime is really worth watching if you are okay with the BL undertone.

I give it 4.89/5.00!

Okay, friends, now let's get back to life! Manifesting a stable job next month, huhu. Wish me luck! Have a wonderful day, peeps!
